Interesting Places
If you come to Borovets, but are not a skier, you should visit (with an experienced mountaineer) the following charming places in Rila: Mt. Maliovitsa and Mt. Musala. You could also try horse-back riding or you could go fishing. A visit to the Rila Lakes is a must - the serenity of the places and the marvellous landscapes will captivate you. We would also certainly recommend the world famous Rila Monastery (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) or the busy city of Sofia for sightseeing or shopping.
Winter Sports
Borovets is set at an altitude of 1,350m on the northern slope of Rila Mountain, surrounded by virgin nature and centuries old pine forests. The ski resort of Borovets, the oldest Bulgarian ski resort, was a favourite of the Tsars and until 1942 was named Chamkoria.The season starts mid December and ends beginning of May. Ski runs go from 1,300 to 2,560 meter and are more than 58 km long overall with various difficulty levels. Traditional skiing facilities are complemented by biathlon tracks and jumps. The longest ski run is 10 km long. Artificial snow machines guarantee flawless skiing independently of the weather. The ski runs are located in three regions: Sitnyakovo, Markudjika and Yastrebets. Since 2002 night lighting is available which allows for skiing in the evening. As for the expert skier testing the World Cup run, one of the more challenging pistes in the Yastrebets area, is a must. There is also excellent skiing through the trees and off-piste.
The lift infrastructure is well developed: 1 six-seat Gondola lift, 2 High Speed Quad Chair lifts, 2 Fixed Grip Quad Chair lift, 10 Surface ski lifts and a few baby lifts. As for the 6 persons gondola lift, it takes you to the Yastrebets peak at 2363 m above sea level. The difference in altitude is approx. 1,046 m and length of the route is 4,827 m. The total capacity of all lifts in Borovets is 8,150 persons per hour.
In the resort there are 12 ski rental services, most of them are around the lifts, and offering more than 8,000 sets. Other activities like biking, snow sledges, and jeep safari area also available. After Ski
